Value stream management in DevOps isn’t going away anytime soon, and organizations that take advantage of VSM software now can see benefits almost immediately. That’s the point SD Times hits at in their 2021 Value Stream Management Buyers Guide and corresponding articles.

In her article, “Value stream management will be a driving force behind successful business in 2021”, SD Times reporter Christina Cardoza writes, “If 2020 taught businesses anything, it is that they need to be able to adapt at any moment if they want to stay competitive and be successful. But in order to do that, they need actionable insight into what is going on throughout the entire organization and how that is translating into business value.” That’s where value stream management comes in.

Value stream management in DevOps isn’t just about making DevOps data visible, though that is an important part. With robust tools like HCL Accelerate, this data is not only gathered from disjointed tools, but tracked, interpreted, and accessible across teams. HCL Accelerate has unique features like swim lanes and dots to provide up-to-date information on the who, what, when, and where of work items. With this level of information, value stream management allows organizations to:

  • Make more strategic decisions
  • Surface best practices
  • Identify bottlenecks
  • Improve governance

Imagine how that could change your organization and place it ahead of the competition.

So why isn’t every team using VSM? If it’s so great, why isn’t it ubiquitous? Just like DevOps itself once was, VSM is an emerging strategy that is still in the early stage of adoption. But that doesn’t make it any less powerful. In fact, those who implement VSM into their DevOps approach now will have the advantage of being ahead of their peers and competitors in DevOps maturity.

Bryant Schuck, HCL Accelerate’s product manager, offers this advice on VSM: “Start today, even if it’s simply defining your processes or outlining how value gets to your customers. That’s the pinnacle of value stream management that we’re focusing on – the outcome for the customers rather than output.”

When it comes to value stream management tools, you need to look for a solution that is vendor agnostic so you can continue to use the tools you already have in place; built for growth so it can expand with your organization; customizable so you can surface the metrics that matter to your unique business; secure so you can manage what information is release to whom; and innovative so you can ensure you’re getting the latest technology in VSM for DevOps. HCL Accelerate has all of those factors.
