Entering a new and dynamic era of Agentic AI, where intelligent agents act autonomously, make decisions, and perform many tasks rather than simple algorithms, this world of artificial intelligence has just started to unfold and revolutionize how we work and interact with technology. To unleash the true power, the orchestration framework needs to be robust.

Rise of Agentic AI

Agentic AI is undeniably a distinct paradigm.. While traditional AI systems are rigidly programmed to follow a set of rules, agentic systems have the ability to learn, adapt, and act independently. As industry expert, Andrew Ng puts it, “The next wave of AI will be about building systems that can reason, plan, and act in the real world.” And this is what differentiates Agentic AI from the rest environment in which we live, making for much more dynamic interactivity.

But with this independence comes challenges. As Fei-Fei Li, AI researcher and professor highlights, "The challenge lies in coordinating these intelligent agents to work together seamlessly." Without proper orchestration, these powerful tools risk becoming isolated islands, unable to leverage their collective intelligence.

Why Orchestration Matters

Imagine an organization deploying multiple AI agents for various tasks: customer service chatbots, supply chain optimization tools, and fraud detection systems. Each agent operates independently, potentially leading to conflicting actions and inefficiencies. This is where orchestration comes in.

"Orchestration acts as the conductor of the AI symphony," says Marco Cardelli, Product Manager Director and AI Orchestration Specialist. "It ensures that each agent plays its part harmoniously, maximizing the overall performance of the system."

A robust orchestration platform offers several key benefits:

  • Coordination: It allows smooth coordination and collaboration among AI agents, thus allowing them to work towards a common goal.
  • Automation: It can automate complex workflows, involving multiple agents and help decrease  manual intervention, thus increasing efficiency.
  • Flexibility: New AI agents can be plugged into an orchestration framework depending on the new requirements of the business.
  • Control: The framework gives an overall picture of AI agent activities so their action can be monitored and managed from a central place, where transparency and accountability are ensured.

The Future of AI is Orchestrated

According to industry analysts, there is expected to be a strong growth in  the adoption of Agentic AI in the coming years.

Adding to this, Gartner® indicates, “By 2028, 33% of enterprise software applications will include agentic AI, up from less than 1% in 2024, enabling 15% of day-to-day work decisions to be made autonomously.” 1 Also, “By 2028, AI agent machine customers will replace 20% of interactions at human-readable digital storefronts”. Finally, “By 2028, at least 15% of day-to-day work decisions will be made autonomously through Agentic AI, up from zero percent in 2024.” 2

This suggests that organizations are undergoing an intense incremental change as they rapidly integrate Generative AI and Agentic AI into their core operations.

"From a product management perspective, the ability to effectively orchestrate AI Agents is paramount," says Alexandra Thurel, AVP of Product Management and AI Specialist. "It's not just about deploying individual AI capabilities, but about building cohesive, intelligent ecosystems that deliver tangible value to our customers. Orchestration is the bridge that connects these AI components, ensuring they work in harmony to achieve strategic business outcomes."

However, if businesses want to take full advantage of this opportunity, they should invest in heavy orchestration. As Francesca Curzi, AVP and Digital Transformation Strategist states, "The future of AI is not about individual agents, but about their collective intelligence, and orchestration is the key to unlocking that potential."
